So along with my love for fashion, I have a love for beauty products. I also really love a good tan. In honor of spring break and weather that requires shaving our legs, I'm devoting a post to a sunless tanning lotion.
I used to use tanning beds, I know it's horrible. I decided to stop last year and have let myself become the whitest I've been since my awkward teen years. It doesn't matter as much in the winter but now that were back to legs and arms showing it's nice to have a little color. After doing a doing a super late run to the store the night before an event, I came home with this self-tanning lotion, Loreal Sublime Bronze Luminous Bronzer Self-Tanning Lotion. It is best not to do this the night before an event so you have time to settle. I would suggest 2-3 days prior to make sure you have a shower in between to wash off the bronzer but not too far ahead because it will slowly wash off and you can not exfoliate with it on.
This stuff stinks. I have yet to find a self tanner than does not stink though. This is why rinsing off/ showering after eight hours at least is important. You need to rinse off the orangish tint from the bronzer and the smell. This stuff is also sparkley... I don't know why but you sparkle like a vampire out of Twilight . The bronzer will come off immediately when you shower. You will not like the color until after you shower but after you do, it is fine. You need to wait eight hours before a shower or sweat in order to let the lotion dry and let your skin absorb it.
You will need: regular lotion of your choice, exfoliating glove, plastic gloves and self tanning lotion
You can purchase the lotion at a drugstore. The dollar store should have the exfoliating gloves. These will make your skin soooo soft. Exfoliating your entire body will make the application a lot smoother.
This is what the lotion looks like
Exfoliate entire body and shave. (Once your tan is on you can not exfoliate in order to make the tan last)
Use lotion of your choice to lightly moisturize. Focus on ankles, knees, elbows and wrists. Let dry. Use face moisturizer on your face.
Put on plastic gloves and apply self-tanning lotion to one area at a time. Wipe off excess and lightly rub into ankles, wrists and knees. Spend time rubbing the lotion into your skin in one section in order to achieve an even tan.
Use a little bit of tanning lotion at a time and apply to your face starting at the outside. Make sure to blend into your hairline, ears and neck. Lightly rub into your face,
Remove the gloves and lightly rub some self tanning lotion into the backs of your hands
Let dry before getting dressed. Be careful about wearing white until you shower.
Make sure you moisturize regularly to keep your tan. I usually apply it on a Saturday and this usually starts fading in the middle of the week but I wait until the weekend to apply it again. You can apply twice a week if you want. This color is just a few shades darker so it's good for regular use. It's not noticeable enough for people to say anything, but they'll notice when it washes off because I go back to pasty white. Would be a good way to maintain your tan a little longer after spring break.
I hope this post helps some of you. Have a great spring break!
