In the last year I've started to travel and I can't stop. I wanted to go somewhere new for a mini vacation and we decided on California. I've never been to California before but there are beaches so it it was an easy decision! I saw something online about traveling the country by train and I thought it sounded so fun. That's where the idea came from and we looked up train tickets to California.
Traveling by train turned out to be an awesome idea. It was so much calmer and easier than flying. We didn't have to show up hours before for a crazy security check and we were able to bring multiple bags and keep them with us. There was plenty of leg room which is huge when you're traveling with someone tall. The train ride was overnight so I spent most of it sleeping and we were there by the time I woke up. The downside was that the train station is in Tucson so we had a two hour drive to get there and had to pay to park the car in a garage for a few days. I would still highly recommend traveling by train at least once for the experience. We will probably do it again for another trip in the future!
We ended up renting a car at the station when we got to Los Angeles so that we could get around. The Airbnb we stayed at was in a suburb so there wasn't much going on within walking distance. If you haven't tried Airbnb yet, I definitely suggest looking into it for your next trip. It can be a big money saver and a lot more comfortable than a hotel. I've hosted guests before but this was our first time staying at one.
You can see my last post for our day at the beach but the rest of the time we just drove around looking at places and getting stuck in traffic. I thought parking and traffic in Phoenix was bad but LA was worse. The only night we went out to Hollywood we took an Uber so we wouldn't have to park. The last day there we went to the Walk of Fame and wandered around. We picked up some corny souvenirs and and stopped at the Pig N Whistle for their happy hour. It wasn't too crowded and we ended up staying there for a couple hours until it was time to go to the train station. The building was cool and the restrooms were downstairs through a series of tunnels. It was a fun way to end a great trip and I would love to go back to LA.
So when we went to the train station to leave we were kind of cutting it close on time. It was hard to find the section to return the rental car since it wasn't marked at all. My boyfriend had the tickets and told me the platform so we rushed over there. We're standing there for a few minutes before he realized it was the wrong one and our train was about to leave. We had to actually sprint with all of our bags to the train before it took off. I swear he did it for dramatic effect but we made it just in time!
I packed a lot of pieces that could be worn a lot with different outfits. These sneakers were perfect for walking around a lot plus they worked with almost every outfit that I packed. A denim jacket is my go to for dresses in the spring and I have to bring jackets because I am always cold. I brought this one for day and a faux leather one that I wore when I went out at night. When I'm traveling and out all day,it's impossible to carry a small crossbody! I don't know where you put anything. This tote has been perfect for everyday and it was the right size to take on a trip without being too bulky. I highly recommend this tote especially since it's only $40 and is available in different colors. The white goes with anything!
I can't wait for my next mini trip. Keep checking back for more posts!
